HOGIE HUT
June 18th
Anticipation was the driving force for the ride this week.
Our route was south to Corry and Big Rick took us through some great back roads that eventually pointed us toward Corry. On the way, we rolled through small towns that while only 20 or 30 miles from downtown Erie, remind you of a by gone era.
Some would look at this as depression but other would argue this style of living was peaceful and not full of all the distractions modern live brings with it. Exiting these towns allowed us to throttle up and see some greener pastures. However we were rebels (in our own minds) as we tempted the dark clouds to our backs. The prediction of rains was present and we felt we would skirt it.
Once we hit The Hogie Hut we consumed a variety of their Italian style food including the pasta buffet. I think the best part of the evening was when the young lady who waited on us took a to go order from Big Rick for a calzone (which by the way are the size of a deflated NFL football). It wasn’t the order the struck her as odd it was the fact he had to stick it in his saddlebags.
Still anticipating rain we rolled out to head home. As it grew darker and darker some of us took various routes home to skirt the storm front. Some of us (I think I was the only one) were riding the front edge of the storm front like surfers ride the tube. However my tube crashed in on me and I was soaked to the bone. Changing direction I eventually rode up behind our fearless leader and we shared a ride home that night.
I was back on a familiar piece of iron. While we have sold about a half dozen of them this year, the Cycle City crew has unofficially adopted this bike as our house demo. Everyone who has ridden it has mentioned its comfort, great handling and unique look.
As Rick and I published the list of rides all up front to help everyone plan we are going to take advantage of some of the rain days we had, and reschedule some of the favorite stops we might have missed. Look forward to riding with you guys next week.
