A Week Of Learning
Our third week out and while it was the shortest ride and coldest ride I had learned the most (sort of). This Wednesday we found the temperature in the low 40’s and knew the group would be light. Once all the diehards showed up we rolled out and headed south.
This is not the regular weekly write up. Instead here is what I learned on this ride:
* Reminder the temps were in low 40’s
- Snot bubbles are just as funny at 35 as they were at 5
- Having friends to ride with on a night like this, beats hanging out in a bar
- Windscreens and heated grips don’t sound so girly now
- So cold not even the bugs were flying
- Loud pipes do save lives (more on that below)
- Even your worst day riding is still better than your best day working
- Digital Cameras work way better when you remember to put the memory card in them (reason for no pics).
We trailed south, out past Lake Pleasant and graced some farmer’s roads. I would have included the customary map but Big Rick made so many turns I lost track. Plus I was more amused with item number one above.
Back to the review… We did come back through Wattsburg and headed due South on Route 89 where a few glimpses of the lake still showed chunks of ice. Once we rolled into Freeport in North East we dismounted and headed inside where the locals gave us a few strange looks.
There is something to be said about, out of your way local diner type establishments. Freeport got right to the point of warming us up with fresh coffee, pleasant service and great food. My raviolis were homemade with fresh ricotta and slow cooked sauce. Every portion was abundant and the silence at the table indicated everything was perfect.
Sun down and moon up we thought temps would have dropped but to out surprise it was slightly warmer (46 degrees) when we exited the restaurant to head home. I enjoyed this evening on a perfect Kawasaki 900 Classic Cruiser. This unit is one of our pristine used units and compared to the previous ride (Suzuki M50) it reacted more like a smooth V8. After all, this bike was built for cruising so it was not as nimble or sporty but it did rank high in every area where a cruiser should. When you are cruising along at 60 and your bike sounds like the Jetson Mobile and you are waiting for bubble to start coming out of your pipes you can appreciate the performance and sound of after market pipes. And that’s all this bike would need to be a great affordable head-turner.
We hope to see you on our next Cycle City Ride N Dine Club ride this upcoming Wednesday. There is no membership needed, all you need to do is show up at the shop and we ride from there.
