The Sandbar - April 16th 2008

This will be the first of many reviews I write this year, but the first ride of the year always seems to be the best. Cooped up all winter and spring getting a late start only had everyone filled with more anticipation of hitting the road on two wheels for the first time this year.

Wednesday marked the first of many rides for Cycle City’s Ride N Dine Club. The turn out of riders was great and the path taken was refreshing. There are a couple dozen Ride N Dine Club rides this year and a complete list can be found at http://www.cyclecity1.com/event_calendar.asp.

With Big Rick giving the customary blessing of the bikes, we rolled out of Cycle City just past 6:00PM. The sun was crisp and the temp was well in the 60’s. Big Rick led the pack south to catch route 8 where the country scenery was soon upon us. Our initial run of the year for the club took us up through Wattsburg and Amity then looped back through some side roads into Waterford. The highlight of this route was Eagle’s Nest where the riders got to see a beautiful bald eagle perched high in his nest.

Once through Waterford we headed north and gave the riders a ride-by view of our new location on Peach Street. Once back into town we made our way to the dining part of the evening, The Sandbar. Located at 8th and Peninsula (previously Scorchers) we rolled in around 7:30PM and headed in to experience the new establishment.

Once inside The Sandbar I was impressed with the clean remodel of the place, nothing major but just a refreshing feel.  Our service was great and the drinks and food came without a long delay.  The menu consisted of your typical bar food, if it wasn’t deep fired it was wrapped or a burger.  While tempted to try their wings I went for some deep fried cheese sticks and a chicken wrap with mushrooms and cheese. While it would be hard to make a chicken wrap to wow someone I was impressed that all the food came out at the same time and was hot and fresh, you could tell it did not sit under a heat lamp.  Give them a try if you are in the neighborhood.

We wrapped the night up and headed back to the shop to put away the Suzuki M50 I rode for the night.  The bike has some stunning lines compared to the past models in the Suzuki line up.  Its ominous blacked out appearance stood out in the crowd and cradled a 800cc motor, a great balance overall. This would be a great bike for someone moving up from a 250cc or 500cc ride, it is not overpowering and with aftermarket bikes runs loud and strong.

We hope to see you on our next Cycle City Ride N Dine Club ride this upcoming Wednesday.  There is no membership needed, all you need to do is show up at the shop and we ride from there.
